About Kathryn Hicks

For over 35 years, Kathryn Hicks has combined her passions by bringing food, wine, art, and culture together at The Oakland House.

P. Kathryn Hicks, known to those with the pleasure of her friendship as Katie Hicks, is the owner, operator, resident epicurean and wine enthusiast at The Oakland House. She holds an MFA from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA and is a Professor Emerita of Art and Art History at the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, SC. Katie has been fascinated by art for as long as she can remember and has a large collection of art (much of which is on display at The Oakland House), including works by Monet, Picasso, Matisse, Dali, and Moret. Katie has devoted most of her life to the enjoyment and study of her three great loves: art, wine, and food. At The Oakland House, she strives to combine the three in a sensory experience for all her guests.

Katie has spent over 35 years serving the Upstate's best at The Oakland House. She takes pleasure in arranging events and creating custom menus for all her guests. Katie's goal is to make that special day perfect for all her customers. She has special experience in weddings and large events. A self-taught cook, Katie has always had a passion for cooking, food, and wine. Though not formerly trained as a chef, she has taken classes from great chefs, including Julia Child. Katie also enjoys travel and strives to incorporate her many global experiences in her presentations at the Oakland House's special events and classes.
